The Haberman Educational Foundation, Inc. recently launched the Haberman International Policy Institute in Education.
It is gratifying to see this effort in terms of providing, not just a highly qualified teacher in every classroom, but also, a competent, caring teacher in every classroom. Their focus is also to make sure that there is a competent educational leader in every principal’s chair.
As we enter the year 2007, it is imperative that we examine the educational landscape and make sure that all schools in both urban and rural sections of this country are equipped with charismatic, competent professionals. The Haberman Foundation has for years, advocated alternative certification procedures and screening measures to ensure that high caliber professionals are integrated into our urban schools. These urban schools are often filled with students from poor, poverty stricken homes and environments. They are the students who most need to learn to read, write, spell, do math, and learn the skills needed for the futures. These are the students who need most to be motivated and learn to appreciate the value of education.
These are the students who most need to learn to use the dictionary, the encyclopedia and the Internet.
These are the students who most need to learn that skills, abilities and competence will pay off in the long run.
These are the students who need to learn that it is better to read than to play meaningless computer games.
These are the students who most need to learn the importance of a sound mind in a sound body.
The Haberman selected teachers are the ones who most highly value teaching, learning, scholarship and standards.
The Haberman selected teachers are the ones who will help their students rise from the slums of poverty and despair.
The Haberman selected teachers are the ones who can best offer praise, encouragement, and the emotional sustenance that kids from poverty need.
The Haberman teachers are the ones that most instill in urban students the needs to do well, succeed, and achieve rather than die of an overdose of drugs.
The Haberman Foundation stands behind the values that knowledge is important, and that skills, once learned, can never be taken from one.
The Haberman Foundation endeavors to foster higher order thinking, critical thinking, as well as analysis, integration and synthesis as well as evaluation.
The Haberman Foundation stands for helping all students achieve to the very best of their ability and cognitive skills.
A letter of support should do more than just espouse words. It should validate, empower and enable teachers, principals and all involved in the schools to excel and achieve.
The Marines are always looking for a few good men. The Haberman Foundation is looking for a few good teachers and principals and attempting to place them in the schools that need the most help. I wish them well in their noble quest.
